What to write in a personalized song

By Sungto · Updated October 24, 2026

The best details in a personalized song are small and specific: a habit, a phrase, a place, a shared joke. Below are forty ideas, eight for each kind of relationship. Pick up to five, keep each to one line, and the lyrics will be about one person.

For a partner

  • Where you met and what you were wearing
  • The first thing you noticed
  • A habit you have learned to love
  • The line you both still say
  • A trip you keep talking about
  • How you knew it was them
  • A small ritual only you two have
  • What you are looking forward to

For a parent

  • The thing they always say
  • What they cooked on Sundays
  • The tune they hum
  • What they taught you without meaning to
  • The car or the kitchen you picture them in
  • A hard year they carried you through
  • Their laugh
  • What you never said out loud

For a child

  • The day and the hour they arrived
  • What made them laugh first
  • Their favourite thing in the world
  • A word they say wrong and you hope they never fix
  • What they want to be
  • How brave they were this year
  • Who they take after
  • What you hope for them

For a friend

  • The first time you met
  • An inside joke that never dies
  • The call they always answer
  • A trip that went wrong
  • What they know about you that nobody else does
  • How long you have been friends
  • What they do when you are sad
  • Why they matter to you

For a sibling or a colleague

  • The thing they borrowed and never returned
  • A rivalry that turned into respect
  • What they are like at their worst and best
  • A story that always comes up at family dinners
  • What they have achieved quietly
  • How they have changed
  • A habit that drives you mad and you will miss
  • What you want them to know

Choosing and using them

How to pick the five

  • Choose details only you would know. Anyone can say “kind” or “funny”; only you know about the ferry home.
  • Prefer a thing to an adjective: a van, a phrase, a Sunday.
  • Keep each one short, one line. Sungto takes up to five details.
  • Mix one sentimental detail with one that makes them laugh.

What not to include

Leave out anything the person would not want sung or shared. A song can be sent to others with a link, so write only about someone you know, and nothing they would not want shared.

Quick questions

How many details can I put in a Sungto song?

Up to five. The lyrics are written from them, and you read and change the lyrics before the song is made.

Do I have to write full sentences?

No. A short phrase is enough, such as “makes the coffee every single morning”.

Can I add a name that is hard to say?

Yes. The name is respelled for the singer in the language of the song, so it comes out right.
